31 Moments in Time :: the day of rest

God cares for even the little sparrow.  Trust that he will care for you and unwrap the gift of the day of rest that he has given for your benefit.  Just as these little birds rest contented and safe in the leaf of a pumpkin, so we too can rest in the loving hands of God.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?"

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?  So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."  Matthew 6:25-34

31 Moments in Time :: cookie run

On Wednesday we made our annual trek north through the tunnel of trees  and on up to Cross Village.  Our first stop after lunch is always Crooked Tree Breadworks where we pick up our order of lavender cookies.  These babies are to die for... or at least spend a day in the car for.  We have learned the hard way to order them before we leave the house because one year we got there and they were all out.  I can't begin to tell you of our utter disappointment.  These shortbread cookies are buttery crisp and melt in your mouth delicious.  The car fills with the aroma of lavender... if you can imagine eating a scent, that's what it's like... a glorious awakening of the senses. Dramatic for a cookie, I know, but they're just that good.

Sure, there are other things to do while traveling the tunnel, like see the cross in Cross Village,

or check out the views of the water,

or visit some random sheep on the side of the road and realize they really are stupid.

You can meander the pumpkin patch at Pond Hill Farm

and take endless pictures of their adorable baby goats...

but for us, it's all about stopping at this little antique place on the side of the road to buy the best cup of chai known to man to go with the best cookie known to man.

YUM!
